CROSS-POLLINATION XCIII - TUES APR 25TH - 7:30-10 PM
LOST BOY
IVANA C

In 2000 the world was brought into the future. Lost Boy was left behind yet always ahead of his time. A continuous experiment of voices and strings and other sounds, Lost Boy brings us indie folk rock like most weren't aware it could exist amongst us. Barbra Streisand would like it, had she heard it. But she lives in a far away building. You will like it, once you hear it. You live in New York.

When asked what superhero he would be, if he were one, Lost Boy answered with silence. We assume that meant "Batman". Bats produce sounds we cannot hear. The main advantage over actually being Batman is that Lost Boy produces sounds we can hear and he doesn't promise to save us. We don't want to be saved. Let us endure the full sonic attack of Lost Boy and come out richer.

I can’t help but feel partially responsible for the marvel that is Ivana C. No, I didn’t write any of her songs; nor have I really had any contact with her at all. But I have been crying out for a Joanna Newsom alternative. Someone with her songwriting talent, but who doesn’t sound so….strange. Ivana is like the beautiful melding of Cat Power’s soft, sexy voice, with Joanna’s open-minded approach to songwriting and instrumentation. “Threads” finds Ivana sounding more like a jazz seductress than a twenty three year-old from Brooklyn. Her voice has a depth and maturity that far surpasses her age. But if “Threads” sets us up for a big surprise, “First Train” bowls us over with just that. Unfortunately the latter’s title is a poor guess from me. But the amazing thing is, these songs are both just demos. Someone get this girl a record deal and the cover of CMJ, stat!" - YouAintNoPiccaso
